Paul Pierce Explains Why He Doesn't Want Celtics To Possibly Trade For Joel Embiid originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
76ers star center Joel Embiid put on an impressive show in Game 7 against the Celtics in Boston during the first round of the playoffs a couple of weeks ago, knocking them out of contention. However, Paul Pierce isn’t keen on the idea of seeing Embiid in a Celtics uniform next season.
Pierce and Kevin Garnett were chatting about potential trade targets for the Celtics this offseason when Garnett mentioned the possibility of Boston acquiring Embiid. Curious about Pierce's take, he asked for his thoughts on the matter.
"No, he doesn't fit what we're trying to do over here," Pierce said on Friday during "Ticket & The Truth".

Despite Embiid being one of the top players in the NBA when he’s healthy, the Celtics should definitely think twice before pursuing a trade for him. The big man’s time on the court comes with a lot of uncertainty; he appeared in only 39 games this season and had a rough previous year, playing just 19 games, followed by 39 games before that. Embiid's injury history should raise serious red flags for the Celtics, especially as he gets older and the likelihood of injuries only increases.
Instead, Boston would be wiser to target a player like the Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. While he also has some injury concerns after playing in only 36 games this season, he has proven to be more durable than Embiid.
