The New England Patriots finalized their 90-man roster on Monday.
According to Exclusive Sports Group (via ESPN’s Mike Reiss), the Patriots signed undrafted free agent edge rusher Xavier Holmes after his tryout at New England’s rookie minicamp last weekend.
Holmes went undrafted after playing for James Madison in the 2025 season. He played for Maine the previous four seasons from 2021-2024.
The Maryland native recorded six sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss last season at JMU. He also recorded four passes defended that year. Holmes combined for 8.5 sacks over the course of his four years at Maine.
He will get the chance to vie for a spot in New England’s rotation in 2026 in the lead-up to the season. The Patriots have Harold Landry and Dre’Mont Jones as their starters on the edge, and they selected Gabe Jacas and Quintayvious Hutchins in the 2026 NFL Draft.
