The New England Patriots are back making roster moves after losing the Super Bowl to the Seattle Seahawks.
On Wednesday, the team announced that they signed running back Elijah Mitchell to a reserve/futures contract. New England also added offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez on the same type of deal.
"The New England Patriots announced that they have signed T Sebastian Gutierrez and RB Elijah Mitchell to futures contracts. Both of those players spent time on the New England practice squad in 2025," the Patriots announced on their website.
Mitchell started the 2025 campaign with the Kansas City Chiefs before being released and joining New England's practice squad. The 27-year-old appeared in just one game this season.
At one point, Mitchell looked like a future impact playmaker for the San Francisco 49ers. He tallied 963 rushing yards with the 49ers during his rookie season in 2021, but his career has since been derailed by injuries.
Mitchell will be back with the Patriots for the offseason and will look to earn an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
The offseason is just getting started for New England, so we'll see what other moves the front office makes as they look to build off a Super Bowl appearance in 2025.
