New England Patriots linebacker Christian Elliss will get the chance to put forth a season of note in 2026 on the final year of his current deal.
Elliss was instrumental in the Patriots’ run to the Super Bowl at the end of the 2025 season. The Colorado native recorded three quarterback hits, three passes defensed and 10 total pressures. Elliss was lauded throughout the Patriots’ playoff run for his individual play.
Another strong season for Elliss in 2026 will create a lane for him to earn a sizable contract in free agency next year.
Prior to Elliss’ contract year, the Patriots opted to sign veteran linebacker K.J. Britt in free agency and select Namdi Obiazor with the No. 212 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Britt is a playoff-tested linebacker who will offer support alongside Elliss and Robert Spillane next season.
Obiazor is in line to spell for Elliss as a rookie in 2026 and take over for him if the veteran starter departs in free agency. He recorded two interceptions, two sacks and a forced fumble in 2025 at TCU.
The Patriots have the requisite pieces in place to fill Elliss’ shoes if he signs elsewhere in free agency. The Idaho product will have all the opportunities at his disposal to help New England finish with another high-ranking defense next season, which will reverberate in every way pertaining to his, as well as the team’s, future.
