The New England Patriots are expected to be active in the wide receiver market in free agency.
New England reportedly released Stefon Diggs, which created a hole at receiver, and the Patriots have been linked to plenty of receivers, whether that’s through trade, free agency, or the draft.
Yet, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Sunday that the Patriots will be closely watching the free agent market of Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs.
“Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs plans to hit the market,” Fowler wrote. “Talks with Green Bay did not result in a new deal. He'll have several suitors. The Patriots, Commanders, and Titans are closely watching his market, along with the 49ers. Doubs is considered by some evaluators to be the best all-around receiver in the group.”
Doubs, as Fowler notes, will be highly sought after as several teams are showing interest in the young receiver. The 25-year-old recorded 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns last season with the Packers as he’s a solid No. 2 or No. 3 receiver on a Super Bowl-contending team.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano projected Doubs to sign a three-year, $49 million deal with $30 million guaranteed. So, it wouldn’t be a massive commitment for the Patriots, as Alec Pierce or trading for A.J. Brown would be.
NFL free agency is set to open on March 11 at 4 p.m. ET.
