The New England Patriotsannounced that they released cornerback Miles Battle and offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes on Monday.
Those moves create two spots on the 53-man roster with defensive tackle Milton Williams, left tackle Will Campbell and cornerback Alex Austin all eligible to return.
Battle was signed by the Patriots to the practice squad last season and was elevated to the 53-man roster for the season finale against the Buffalo Bills. He tallied two tackles and three passes defensed in that matchup against the Bills.
Meanwhile, Jaimes saw action on special teams for the Patriots this season. He was signed by the organization to the practice squad back in September and was elevated for the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants games in September and December.
Big moves could be coming for the Patriots with key contributors coming off injured reserve. The 21-day practice window has officially opened for both Campbell and Williams. So there's a legitimate shot that both will be ready to return for the regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins.
For the Patriots, it couldn't come at a better time with the playoffs nearing.
