The New England Patriotsmade a couple of moves on Monday, including releasing running back D’Ernest Johnson from the 53-man roster and releasing offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez from the practice squad.
The Patriots elevated Johnson to the active roster for three games during the regular season, and he was signed to the 53-man roster on December 13. He appeared in seven regular-season games and had 14 rushes for 25 yards. He also doubled as a kickoff returner, and he returned five kicks for 128 yards.
Gutierrez was originally on the New England practice squad in 2022. He entered the league as a rookie free agent with the Denver Broncos. He also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
His presence was more of a practice squad depth piece for a Patriots team that has dealt with a lot of injuries along the offensive line throughout the season.
The releases of Johnson and Gutierrez have created open spots on both the 53-man roster and the practice squad for the team to make other moves.
