Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. power struggles are no sign to panic originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Diego Padres are a bonafide contender in the National League West, and are likely going to give the back-to-back World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, a run for their money. They have put together a solid season, and it has been without one of their best hitters unlocking any bit of power to his game.
Fernando Tatis Jr. has yet to hit a home run, and it is alright. Yes, you read that right, it is alright that he has yet to hit a long ball yet. With a batting average of .261, and 13 RBIs to his credit, he is doing everything else right. He also leads the Padres with nine stolen bases already this season, and is on pace for 44 on the year, which is a career-high.
Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com named Tatis Jr. as a player to give some patience to. He is 100% right, because eventually these hard hit balls are going to fly out of the ballpark. According to Baseball Savant, the right fielder is still in the top 1% of all hitters in Major League Baseball with a 61.5% rate of getting a hard hit over 95+ MPH.
Tatis Jr. is going to keep these Padres in contention, and that is a fact. Homers or not, he is still a major component in this team's success and they will be counting on him to continue doing exactly what he is doing. When he does get that power going though, watch out MLB, as the Padres are going to be at full-power.
