The Green Bay Packers have been active in securing extensions for their core players ahead of the season. This offseason, they have reached long-term deals with Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Devonte Wyatt, and Isaiah McDuffie.
The Packers are also working on an extension for tight end Tucker Kraft, as he's coming off a career year before he went down with a torn ACL.
Another player entering the final year of their contract is cornerback Keisean Nixon. Nixon has had some solid seasons as a cornerback for Green Bay, but the team is making the right decision not to give him a pay raise and long-term extension.
He will make $6 million in the 2026 season, but as a starting outside cornerback, he is seeking a deal with more annually.
However, Nixon has struggled at times since moving from the slot to outside cornerback. He has shown flashes of being a starting-quality player, but has also struggled to be consistent in his role.

In the 2025 season, Nixon finished with 72 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 17 pass deflections, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
By letting Nixon play out his contract season, they can see if he plays at a higher level and potentially re-sign him to a larger contract.
When he was first playing for Green Bay, he was named a two-time All-Pro returner in 2022 and 2023, but he no longer returns kicks for the team. With the Packers drafting cornerback Brandon Cisse in the second round and signing Benjamin St-Juste in free agency, there is more competition at outside cornerback.
Carrington Valentine, who has also been a starter on the outside, will also be in competition for a spot.
They will all be fitting into a new defensive scheme under coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Gannon is replacing Jeff Hafley, who accepted a job as the Miami Dolphins' head coach following the Packers' playoff exit.
Green Bay has to be wise with every decision they make, as they have a ton of money tied up in their core players in their Super Bowl window, around Jordan Love and Micah Parsons. Letting Nixon play out his contract year is the best move that the Packers can make.
