The Green Bay Packers are expected to hire Wisconsin native and Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes as the new linebackers coach under defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

Siefkes, who grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, would replace Sean Duggan as the Packers linebackers coach.

The 34-year-old went to UW-La Crosse as a player but had his playing career ended by injury. He then spent two seasons as a student assistant at UW-La Crosse, one season as a graduate assistant under Dave Aranda at Wisconsin and two seasons as a defensive coordinator at UW-Platteville.

Siefkes has ties to Gannon, who hired him as the Arizona Cardinals linebackers coach in 2023. He spent two years in the job until taking the Virginia Tech defensive coordinator job in 2025.

Siefkes' first NFL experience came with the Minnesota Vikings. He was a defensive quality control assistant in 2021 under Mike Zimmer and the assistant linebackers coach in 2022 after Kevin O'Connell was hired. Prior to joining the Vikings, Siefkes spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Wofford.

In Green Bay, Siefkes will get a chance to coach ascending playmaker Edgerrin Cooper, veteran Isaiah McDuffie and developmental prospect Ty'Ron Hopper. Quay Walker, a 2022 first-round pick, is scheduled to be a free agent.
