Javon Hargrave might be 33 years old, but the new Green Bay Packers defensive tackle -- who agreed to a two-year deal on Wednesday -- is still one of the most disruptive interior defenders in football, and he's now reuniting with the coach who once brought out his best in Philadelphia.
The 2025 season wasn't the flashiest season for Hargrave, who finished with 3.5 sacks and 31 pressures for the Minnesota Vikings. But the underlying numbers were terrific. Among defensive linemen with at least 100 pass-rushing snaps in 2025, Hargrave ranked 17th in pass-rush win rate (12.4%) and 11th in pass-rush win rate against true pass sets (18.8%), per PFF.
When looking at the last three years, which includes the 2025 season in Minnesota and two seasons in San Francisco, Hargrave ranks sixth among defensive linemen in pressure rate (12.2%) and second in quick pressure rate (5.4%), trailing only Chris Jones, per Next Gen Stats:
They don't play the same position but consider this: Hargrave had 11 quick pressures on 287 pass-rushing snaps last season, or three more than Rashan Gary, who had eight on 387 pass-rushing snaps.
While the 2021 and 2022 seasons were a lifetime ago in football terms, Hargrave did have his best seasons while playing for Jonathan Gannon -- the new Packers defensive coordinator -- in Philadelphia. In 2021, Hargrave produced 63 pressures, a career-best 18 quarterback hits and a career-best 91.6 pass-rush grade at PFF. In 2022, Hargrave produced a career-best 66 pressures, a career-best 11.0 sacks and a 91.3 pass-rush grade. For a two-year stretch under Gannon, Hargrave was one of the most dominant pass-rushing forces in football.
Yet he wasn't just a product of Gannon. The next season, while with the 49ers in 2023, Hargrave produced 64 pressures and a 86.5 pass-rush grade while helping San Francisco get to the Super Bowl.
The Packers are taking a bit of a risk in signing a 33-year-old player because skill sets often decline, and sometimes rapidly, after the age of 30. But they likely feel good about the risk after watching Hargrave's 2025 tape in Minnesota. He still had plenty of juice as a pass-rusher.
The Packers defensive interior fell off a cliff after losing Devonte Wyatt last season. Now, Green Bay's defense will go into 2026 with both Wyatt and Hargrave as highly capable interior disruptors.
