All draftees sign 4 year contracts.
The players should have submitted some kind of agreement even close to their liking. Now if they reject what the owners approved the public is going to turn on them in a big way.

I think De Smith is realizing he got outmaneuvered. They players could have done the same thing yesterday since I believe they had a conference call then. They would have all the power, instead they are in full containment mode.
not really.
Yes really. Players are obviously f'n stupid!

It was a brilliant pr maneuver by the owners. All of the pressure is now on the players to get the deal done. Not some - ALL.
For a couple of weeks everyone has been hearing how close the deal was to being done and it was all but complete. Now the players will come across as the ones who backed out of the deal and kept the lockout going.
When the lockout was looming I was very much on the players' side---but---I had more than a sneaking suspicion that the players would love to make an agreement late in the process to reduce the time at training camp.
It's called the Brett Favre Show Up to TC When You Want To Syndrome.
If you look at all the concessions the owners made to the players:
1. 48% revenue share.
2. $120M cap---$106.8M minimum as long as the league spends 99%.
3. FA after 4th season.
4. 4 year rookie contracts w/ team option for 5th year.
5. Lower rookie salaries (more $ for veterans).
6. Later TCs---no more full contact for 2 a day practices.
7. OTA's reduced from 14 days to 9.
Sure---DeMaurice Smith says there are other situations such as workman's comp to agree upon---but ,really, the players made so much significant
ground---if they reject this now---esp. to try to stall for another few weeks so they get a shortened training camp---I wouldn't blame the owners is they said go screw and pulled several of the compromises off the table.
The owners budged on a lot of issues here---they deserve a lot of credit for their willingness to compromise.

Really? Most of the public hears one side has agreed and then the other side doesn't agree. Who will they side with? Most of the public will not understand exactly what is happening so they just want football back. NFL owners made a great move tonight.
Good enough for ya Cliff?
If the players don't OK it (and soon) they are going to be seen as a whiney bunch of millionaires by the general public. (Who have a hardy time in this economy ponying up the money for a seat, a dog, and a beer.) Horrible PR if the players say no. Horrible.
So what? How does this prove that they're f'n stupid Shane? Because they haven't voted on it within minutes of the NFL voting on it. What is your reason behind saying that?
All I know is.. I wouldn't give a damn about what you thought about me getting all I can get.
The point I think is they aren't going for all they can get. It now looks as they want it all.
