Major League Baseball is bringing more than just two big-league teams to Dyersville for this month’s "Field of Dreams" game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins.
It's also bringing some of the game's biggest former stars.
MLB announced on Thursday, Aug. 8, that over 25 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame will be on hand at the “Field of Dreams” movie site for a special ceremony, to be broadcast live on Netflix, before the Aug. 13 game between the Phillies and Twins.
The names of the participants were not released, though the large number of baseball legends could be the marquee event of the night. According to MLB, the gathering of Hall of Famers for this game will feature the largest group of living Hall of Famers at a single game since the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, when 49 Hall of Famers appeared during the legendary ballpark’s final season.
The game itself will take place in a stadium located near the iconic Dyersville diamond where the 1989 movie was filmed. The movie starred Kevin Costner, who played an Iowa farmer who plowed over his corn to build a baseball field for members of the banished 1919 Chicago White Sox to play on.
This is the third time MLB will play a game at the “Field of Dreams.” The White Sox and New York Yankees played there in 2021. The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds returned a year later.

In both cases, the pregame show on FOX was among the highlights. Before the 2021 game, Costner emerged from the corn, walked around and led the Yankees and White Sox onto the field.
In 2022, Ken Griffey Jr. and his dad, Ken Griffey Sr., led a game of catch on the field before legends from the Cubs and Reds walked onto the field with the two teams.
First pitch of the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with MLB Network’s Emmy Award-winning production team co-producing the pre- and postgame coverage on Netflix.
NBC Sports' Sunday Night Baseball production team will produce the game, in partnership with MLB and under the creative direction of Netflix's production team.
