Don’t know the exact reason for the absence, but I’ve been hearing for awhile that Josh Sweat is not particularly happy in AZ

Yeah…not new. Pretty sure he came to AZ due to Gannon. The best player coming into the season disengaged would be a great tone setter.

He apparently didn’t attend OTAs last year. I’m not stressed about this at all. Productive player; not a leader.

I think about 8 teams had zero issues preparing for Nick's defense in 2025.

It certainly looked a lot easier once the answer to every formation became "find Cody Simon's assignment"

if brissett is playing hardball and asking for a longer contract then i like what monti is doing - things is we don't know - we don't know if brissett just wants more money for this year or if he wants to be here beyond this year

i'd be blaming monti if i knew more

i asked an unanswered question last week

did brissett demand more money before or after we drafted beck?

if brissett demanded (i say demanded because he's holding out and not showing up) more money before the draft then yes - monti should have locked him up (unless brissett wants an extension)

if brissett demanded more money after the draft then there's not much monti could have done - not only that but the draft shouldn't have changed anything regarding brissett- if that's the case im glad monti isn't worried about re-signing brissett

i hope he isn't worried about re-signing brissett - personally - i think we know exactly who brissett is and why he's important to this team - but also why he can't be the future

brissett's angle is obvious - he fixed the offense - played really well without a running game or a defense - brissett doesn't feel he went 1-11 he thinks the cardinals went 1-11 and he might be right but if i'm monti ossenfort idgaf

if im monti ossenfort i'm not extending brissett's contract - i might pay him more for this upcoming season but i'm not talking extension until i know where this club is at the end of the year

i'm not extending brissett until i have to - truth is i don't have to - i already have a minshew who's just as good and a rookie qb i need to see at some point during this year

but either way - we don't need jacoby brissett - jacoby brissett needs us and the $5 million dollars he's due - i bet he shows up to collect that check

For the fan base, it's all about optics. I for one don't mind him getting a raise. In totality when you look at the situation it's warranted. I just don't view it in the same lens as a Burrows, Jackson, Allen type of hold out. Give my man a few more coins, but don't pay him like we have no other options. This whole ordeal just makes me shake my head even more at this front office if I'm being honest.

They don't want to pay him big money because he is not a long term option, we won't be that good this year, and it might even be in our best interests to start the rookie.

There was no other QB to obtain unless you believe Malik Willis is the answer - which is at best a very risky gamble.

If I am the Cards I tell him we will go up to 12 million or something like that, but that's it. That shows some acknowledgement he has earned a raise, but it also tells him the way we view him, as nothing more than a very short term stop gap, and it is a stop gap we will just bypass altogether if it costs more than that.

They didn't cut or pay him after the draft. There seems to have been no foresight that this would be an issue which they are paid to have. We are not likely going to know numbers but the Cardinals also have zero benefit of doubt in terms of operating based on their history of dysfunction.

You could argue that as soon as they hung up his picture in the building, they also could have stated (publicly) they were reaching out to him to discuss his contract and increase it to reflect a starter. That would have enabled them to get ahead of this and at least appear that they recognize his contract does not reflect a player entering the season as the starting QB. Also, if they did this and then found Brissett's demands unreasonable, they could have released him after the draft with little to no fanfare. Basically, "we have been unable to jointly agree on an increase in Jacoby's salary, and have decided to let him pursue other opportunities".

None of that is high level people management.

Hard to tell that to the players who just got 1000 yard seasons with Brissett.

Hard to do that while also hanging a mural of one of those three at HQ.
