By starting yesterday, Rivers and his family get 5 more years of NFL provided health insurance...

With 10 kids, look for him to play in the 2030 season as well.
Interesting… I’d think that Union would have negotiated something where if you accrued enough games/years you’d get health insurance for life considering what they do for a living.

If that isn’t the case, the Owners are really getting away with murder. Who insures guys with the type of injury histories most NFL players leave the game with and even if guys can get that insurance, it’s got to be thru the roof expensive.

Insurance Eligibility & Duration:
  • Active Players: Get full health, dental, vision, and life insurance while on an eligible roster (active, inactive, IR, PUP).
  • Vested Players (3+ Seasons):
    • Post-Retirement: Receive 5 years of "Continuing Veteran" (CV) coverage (medical, dental, vision, Rx) after leaving the NFL.
    • After CV Expires: Get access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for healthcare, vision, and hearing expenses.
    • Life Insurance: Vested players get $40k life insurance, increasing with more credited seasons (up to $50k) until age 55 or pension starts.
    • Long-Term Disability: Benefits are available for total and permanent disabilities, with higher payouts for football-related injuries and more credited seasons.

All this talk of Rivers returning made me realize what the Cardinals really need to turn this ship around:

Daryl Washington needs to come out of retirement and suit up for the Cardinals once again!

I would hope for the Cards to sign Rivers for 2026 but I like him too much to see that happen. It would make Skorp happy, IIRC he was a big Rivers fan.
