He should be banned from going anywhere near an NBA front office for life. He traded one of the best players in the league for next to nothing. I cannot think of a worse move in the history of the league with the exception of Portland passing on Jordan, but even that is more understandable- they didn't know then what we know now.
He had no choice since the owner ordered him to do that
I agree. Worst moving in NBA history. It's still unfathomable to me that it happened in the first place. Nico is the fall guy but there are a lot of other unseen Maverick officials equally responsible for letting it happen and going through with it.

I don't know who in that organization is truly to blame but I'd fire any of them that supported the decision to deal just with a single team

Has that been verified? If Harrison got that order, I imagine we will hear it from him soon. Why would he not tell the truth now to save his reputation. I also wonder about Michael Finley and Jason Kidd's role. I find it interesting that Doncic basically embraced everyone but Kidd/Harrison/Dumont on his return to the AAC. He even embraced Cuban so clearly there were no hard feelings there.
I still can't believe it. As much as I was upset when the trade was announced, I'm still equally pissed today that the organization is basically acknowledging the failure now. You traded for a guy who is the most injured superstar in the league. Davis is also one of the more disappointing players of his generation when you look at his potential. Great guy though.

Okay. And, knowing what they know about Luka, his attitude and his offseason regimen and his medical profile, that might have been a very reasonable decision on their part. So you trade him, but you don't just invite one buyer to a closed door sale and insist he take your superstar for chump change. And AD, at this stage of his career, IS chump change.
he should step down, seriously. and he's not the majority owner, that is his mother-in-law, I think. she's one of the richest people in the USA and puts Cuban to shame in that regard. I don't think I can cheer for the mavericks again. I am struggling to support them at all. I think if Dumont left, I could get behind them again. I am also disappointed that Cuban did not do more to vetting in his process to sell the team. he just basically accepted on the grounds of financial prowess.
that's why they are talking heads. they don't know what they are talking about. no one had the foresight to think about the fans and what this trade did to them.
I agree. it was a failure on both of those fronts. But I would also say that you don't trade your franchise player, especially when they are a unicorn. Watching Doncic play b-ball was everything to mavs fans. and we already see doncic making changes to improve his health. these things could have been figured out by communicating. you fire the front office, you don't fire the player.

I probably agree with you. I don't know if it applies here but I can think of a few reasons I'd part with a 25 year old superstar even if he were beloved by the fan base. But regardless of whether or not they actually had legit reasons, not getting the best price for him was inexcusable. I understand their rationalization but I believe they were blinded by their fears rather than making a sound business decision.
They were talking about it this morning on the radio
Apparently, the president/owners representative got mad at Lucas representatives as they were talking about contract extension. He ordered Harrison to trade him.
Harrison went to Jason kid told him what was up and asked him what player or players would he want in return and Anthony Davis was at the top of his list of what could be available
I've heard that too. Beyond just that they were having problems with Luka's training regimen. Luka was hiring his own people, but what a lot of people don't know is that Harrison fired Casey Smith, a staff trainer who Luka had a good relationship with. Dirk Nowitzki also credits Smith as one of his top reasons for his long tenure in Dallas. I guess firing Smith could have been Dumont's decision as well, but Harrison as the GM had to of signed off on that or instigated it. It seemed like Harrison had some type of feud with Doncic internally and was trying to assert control over the franchise. Harrison also publicly rebuked Dirk Nowitzki after the trade. Dumont famously brought up legendary players known for their fitness levels and work ethic (including shaq) to justify the trade, but Dumont also did not mention Dirk, notable for his extreme loyalty and work ethic, who is still the most loveable icon in Dallas sports.
All of this was being said in Dallas last season but was speculatory in nature. It wasn't clear whether or not Dumont, Harrison, and Kidd were all on the same page or who initiated the trade talks. Either way, the way Harrison explained it was not believable and he sold as if it were his decision. if it was the truth, he and Dumont both come off as complete morons.

Nico is a scapegoat, obviously, but if you're going to trade Luka, at least have a bidding war and get the absolute maximum value. Mind numbing stupidity there.
i would quit watching basketball if my team traded luka for ad - dallas lost alot of fans
