The guys on the Athletic Football Show were talking about this today. Kyler probably is communicating that he wants to play for the Vikes to scare other teams away and ensure he gets paid and goes where he wants.

The Vikes could trade for Kyler and convert his roster bonus into a signing bonus and he’d have a cap number less than $30MM. That’s manageable if the Vikes make some moves.

They’d rather have Kyler get cut and remove all that risk because Michael would be paying him like $25 million to not be a Card, and any additional money offsets.

The Vikes are not going to have a new GM until after the draft.

It seems unlikely to me that they are going cut and restructure guy to clear $70m in cap space ($40m over the cap plus $30m for Kyler), leaving them with zero space, and do all that to sign a QB with dubious history and a major cloud hanging over them, and they try find a new GM and say "Here you go son, we did all this for you. Enjoy".

Who is this quarterback that is going to come in and make this team competitive?

I like Jacoy but How many games did he win again?

Will Monti ever make a good draft pick, trade or hire the right coach.

He should have packed his bags with Gannon.

Without numb nuts dropping the ball before he scored or with an offensive coordinator that actually tried to win games we could have easily been 5 and 0.

Why would Kyler want to stay with a team that has no defense, no offensive line, no running backs and a top 4 wide receiver who is thus far a bust.

Jacoby played well (mostly).

Wins are a team stat. When Matt Stafford went 3-12 in 2019 was that his fault? Or was it Matt Patricia and a garbage defense?

In his first run of games he put up 27, 23, 27, 22, 22 and 24 points and we lost a bunch of them by one score, and he did all of that with nothing at running back. The 2nd half of his starts were not so good, but we had a lot of defensive injuries and couldn't get off the field. A lot of offensive injuries too.

We also, through all that time, had no red zone run game and a bunch of offensive injuries.

I don't think that Jacoby is a long term starter, but considering the options available I'd rather watch him with a new offensive HC and a fit roster (Conner, Benson, Tipp, Marv missed 6 games with JB) and an upgraded O line. I think with that JB can get a bunch of wins. Or no worse, at least, that the other options available.

All Jacoby needs to be a successful starter is his 8th head coach! That's the key to improving on his 20-45 record as QB, another HC

I just don't see how the Vikings could afford to bring in Kyler and his contract. They have a ton of work to do to just get under the cap. They are currently $40M over the cap.

If KM knows Minny wants him and they can't afford the current contract, he just orchestrates his release by making it clear he won't accept a trade to X or Y. He then signs a mid-range deal with incentives with Minny.

When you've already grossed $170m, you're not worried about your next meal.

Trade him to the Ottawa Redblacks for bag of chips and call it a day!

Actually, I would trade him to the Jets to spite him. If he doesn't want to report, he loses his pay and you fine the heck out of him.

And why would the Jets trade for a player who doesn't want to play for them and wouldn't report?

Why would the JETS make a trade for anyone who says (through his agent) that he doesn't want to play for them or that he isn't willing to renegotiate his deal?

Answer: They won't. End of story.

Talk of loss of pay and fines, therefore, does not apply.

KM goes where it suits him, or he's released, and the clock is on his side.

Didnt they just do that 2 years ago with Haason Reddick?

provides the latest on Kyler Murray:

"This is certainly one to watch. He would be one of the top quarterbacks available via trade or release if that goes down, and most around the league do expect that to go down, and he'll be available."

Our best hope for trading him is honestly teams trying to get ahead of a bidding war for his services... but I have a feeling that other teams will collectively feel like rolling the dice instead of eating any of that contract or giving anything up, hoping they can court him into the right situation and still end up paying less.

Kyler’s options.
Play for the Cardinals ( or ride the bench)
Agree to and work out a trade.
Hold out and not report.
Or retire.
Considering the Cardinals owe him a major roster bonus of $17 million on March 15th, he has a ton more leverage than that. The Cardinals aren't going to pay him $17 million to ride the bench, wait on a trade, or deal with a holdout.

That's why a cut is unfortunately very possible. We're in a squeeze where something has to get done 5 days into the league year.

I suppose I am one of the smaller minds then.

If he doesn't play along - he stays here. He hasn't earned the right to play hardball with us.

I don't care if we have to play him or he sits on the bench - we are out $50M either way (cut or keep).

You don't care, but I'd venture that MB and Monti do, and they are not going to allow this to fester.

We’re not tho. We save a roster bonus, some 2026 salary, and 2027 salary by cutting him before mid-March.

The number between keeping him and cutting him includes money that’s already been paid on the “cut” side.

Guys they aren’t paying him $17 million to sit out.

He doesn’t have to do a thing.
