I just thought of this.

Imagine the Cardinals or Seahawks win the NFC Championship.

Now imagine that the NFL owners decide to relocate the Chargers and Raiders to LA, necessitating realignment. In that scenario, either AZ or SEA will be the most likely to move to the AFC.

Imagine opening the next season with the defending NFC Conference Champ no longer in the conference.

Or...

Would winning the NFC help make the case that the other team should be the one that makes the move?

Hmmmm...

The Seahawks came from the AFC West so them returning is the most logical.

Agree. But the Cardinals are closer geographically, so they have been mentioned a lot as an alternative to Seattle. No one is mentioning SF (because they probably can't be in the same Conference as OAK) or STL (because, 1 Missouri market, maybe?).

Raiders are not moving, they cannot afford the relocation fee. It is down to the Rams and Chargers.

I would think Seattle would want to go back. When they went to the NFC West they lost out on those rivalries they established for over 20 years and aside from us, they really don't have a real rival.

The cardinals are the oldest NFL and NFC team in the league, we would not be the ones moved.

Move the Seahawks so all their bandwagon fans can get reacquainted with the team's history which they are unaware lol

I agree & I bet Michael & the old guard owners would be all against it, but we all know the NFL hiearchy are complete idiots these days.

Yes...plus they wouldn't have to face the Cardinals twice a year!:D

St Louis could move ---

A. It sets up a divisional rivalry with cross state KC
B. St Louis fans wouldnt care-- they would just be happy to have a team

As I partially mentioned in another thread, I think that if the Rams stay put and the Raiders and Chargers end up in LA, the Rams should move to the AFC West and the Chargers to the NFC West. I know the Chargers are an original member of the old AFL West, but they are the odd team out in the Broncos-Raiders-Chiefs love triangle. (The Seahawks were really the odd team out when they were in the AFC West, so I don't see that history as a strong motivator to move them back. Plus, were I the Seahawks, I'd want to stay in the division where I'd had the most success.) The Rams would instantly have a huge rivalry with the Chiefs, and I think the Chargers would have no problem kindling rivalries in the NFC West.

But I also sort of dispute the accepted notion that a market cannot have two teams in the same market. LA is no stranger to crosstown rivalry--it could be cool. Won't happen, though.

And probably least respected. Really the Rams and Chargers should move and keep everything as is.

Question is, if the Rams move, will the NFL ever go back to STL?

Agree, you already have it in NY with the Jets and Giants.

Sorry, what I meant to say was that I dispute the notion that you can't have two teams in the same market in the same conference. I guess the would be in the same division, too. Battle lines drawn quickly!

I am pretty sure TV deals preclude that. You can't have 2 same-market teams that would naturally air on the same network at the same time.

St. Louis is the most likely to move, they signed something with the NFL saying they could be moved to whatever division/conference in order for them to move to St. Louis.

In other words, they signed away their rights 20 years ago. They would be first to move, and it also fits for them playing Denver and KC. Though they should probably rename it the AFC Midwest.
