I was never really big into memorabilia per se, but I did collect cards from the mid 80's to early 90's. I have every game ticket from when the Cards started at SDS until they moved to UoP - stopped after the inaugural season there.

Most of the stuff I have boxed up is news related. Newspapers from the Suns/Bulls finals, Dbacks WS, Cards stuff, Yotes moving here, Rattlers AB's etc. Somewhere I have the magazine - Phoenix, I think - with Buddy Ryan on the cover and the famous, "You've got a winner in town" quote.

Like the tickets, I've also got every program from the Cards games while at SDS too. Back in the day they were full sized and cost a few bucks. Now they're small and free.

Steve Garvey ^^^^

I was working for a sports collectibles store right out of high school. The boss would take stuff to sports collectible swap meats. I just ran the cash register. The boss loved going and had me go with him to meet these guys. Their would be a group each time we went that was paid to come and just sign autographs. Good times looking back. At the time it was just a job.

I have an autographed Kurt Warner ball I won at the Big Red Rage. Larry signed a ball for me years ago at the Rage, but you can barely make out the signature. Got a bunch of other things, but those are my pride and joy.

On a side note, my high school boyfriend had a ton of baseball cards. His dad used to moonlight as a bus/limo driver. Dad offered to get lots of cards (mostly from the Phillies) signed for my boyfriend, who was about 8 or 9 at the time. Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, etc. Years later, my boyfriend found out that not only had his dad NOT asked for the cards to be signed, but he forged them himself. He was pretty pissed off.

Ha. I would be embarrassed and very upset as well. I'm sure he told everyone about all the autographs he has and then had to let them all know it was fake! Crazy

Does that say "To The Hammer: Go Deep"

It does. My boss had me play on his softball team and he called me that. I never played organized baseball but could hit the **** out of a softball. We would go meet these guys he told them to sign some that way. He put the name on my shirt as well. All I did was play catcher and hit it over the fence. That was before the bats they have today. Not a big deal but it was a good time way back then. My lord the memory's I haven't thought about this in years.

That's a great story! And a great double entendre.

Speaking of Steve Garvey, our dad played baseball with him at Michigan State and he said that he wasn't a very likable guy. The story he told us was one we will never let die! Apparently they were at some house party and Garvey was drunk and being an *****. Garvey's girlfriend didn't want to be there anymore so my our dad offered her a ride to be a gentleman (I'm sure he had more intentions then to just bring her home :p). As they were getting ready to leave, Garvey saw that our dad was getting ready to leave with his girlfriend, so Garvey decided to knockout pops! He apparently knocked him into a closet and blacked out for a bit. I'm sure he learned his lesson!

So, whenever Garvey is signing autographs in Phoenix or an article/photo surfaces about him, we make sure we forward it onto pops! It's all in good, fun spirits and he laughs about. Basically, pops is not a big fan of him! :)

My dad had a badass 8x10 B&W of Willie McCovey, personally addressed to my dad and signed by the all-time great. I wonder where that thing wound up?

I have a few cool items not worthy of mention here based on the other (more impressive) other stuff that's been offered up, but one item I do NOT have and should would have been a doozy - I was at the infamous Cal/Stanford game in 1982 that was decided by the crazy kickoff return through the Stanford band. Somehow, I managed to NOT save my ticket stub to that game. That would be a highly prized possession if I still had it today.

I used to have a lot of baseball cards but the only one's I'v ever had signed were Brooks Robinson, Jose Canseco, Jim Abbott, Fred McGriff, and Bob Feller. All autographs I got at card shows. I've since sold then on eBay. I still have a Flyers pennant signed by Jimmy Watson. I also have pennants of the Philadelphia Stars and Washington Federals of the old USFL, a St. Louis Cardinal pennant, a St. Louis Cardinals bobblehead, among other things.

I have seats from inside the Cardinals stadium. I was trying to find a good picture of them but I don't have one. Pretty unique, not many have them I'm sure.
