With the conclusion of regular season games on Sunday, the 2026 Big Ten Tournament has been fully announced. The Oregon Ducks, due to their 5-15 conference record, are slotted in at the No. 16 seed. As a result, they'll compete against the No. 17 Maryland Terrapins at 2:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday in Chicago.
The two teams have matched up just one time this season, as the Ducks came away with a 64-54 win over the Terrapins on the road on Jan. 2. In that game, center Nate Bittle and guard Takai Simpkins led Oregon in scoring with 16 points apiece, with each also grabbing seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, the leading scorer for Maryland was forward Solomon Washington, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Terrapins finished with a 4-16 record in Big Ten play.
The winner of the Oregon-Maryland matchup will face the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday, who went 10-10 in conference play and are on the brink of the NCAA Tournament field.
The Ducks' disappointing season, with an overall record of 12-19, puts them in a precarious spot. In order to make the NCAA Tournament, they can't rely on an at-large bid like they have in recent seasons. Instead, they'll have to run the table, winning seven games in seven days and claiming the automatic bid as the Big Ten champion.
It would be a near unprecedented run, especially for a team missing their all-conference point guard in Jackson Shelstad.
But it all starts on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., when the Ducks will attempt to down the Terrapins in the first round and keep their season alive.
