Get your popcorn ready for the third round of the Open Championship, which tees off on Saturday, July 18 at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.
After the cut on Friday, there are 78 golfers who finished with a score of 1-over par or better and are still competing with half the field ending their journey. Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Justin Rose and U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark were among those who missed the cut. Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and last year's Open Championship winner Scottie Scheffler continue in the competition.
It was an eventful Round 2.
DeChambeau was given a two-stroke penalty after he completed his 18 holes in second place. Officials said that he violated the rules by stomping on the long grass at the 5th hole to improve his lie, clearing a path for his ball.
Jon Rahm put a new conduct policy to the test when he slammed his club down at the 15th hole after a tee shot went wide left. He was not given a penalty.
Lucas Herbert became the leader of the tournament when he tied the record for a lowest score ever carded at a major, 8-under 62. He was joined by Sam Burns, who notched the same score when he finished his round minutes later. Burns enters the third round tied for fifth place with a score of 5-under and Herbert is 8-under after shooting for par on the first day of competition.
