Jun. 25—ROCHESTER — Consistency.

It's been the key word for Brennan Weckwerth, in his life and his golf game, for more than a year.

The recent Rochester Century High School graduate has found that the more consistent he is away from the golf course, the more consistent he is on it.

And no high school golfer in southeastern Minnesota was steadier this spring than the Panthers' top player.

After a 32nd-place finish at the Class 3A state meet on June 9-10 at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Weckwerth finished his fifth and final varsity season with a remarkable 73.05 scoring average. It was the best mark among Section 1 golfers — regardless of class — by 2.95 shots per 18 holes.

For his steady play and commitment to the game — and a stellar senior season — Weckwerth is the 2026 Post Bulletin All-Area Boys Golfer of the Year.

"I think just staying really consistent in the offseason," he said, when asked about his play this spring, "finding a good place to practice and a routine, and having a good team in the offseason to help you stay sharp and focus on your weaknesses.

"So many kids now use simulators to practice. We have a solid setup at home that allows me to hit and putt and lift."

That setup at home — which he shares with his younger sister, Kate, who was in the lineup for every round for the Century girls team this spring as an eighth grader — helped Weckwerth add some distance off the tee. Far more importantly, though, he said, it has helped him improve on and around the greens.

"I think getting a little longer off the tee in the offseason has helped," he said, "but I have been really focusing on chipping and putting. You can never do too much of that. You can always hope to make more putts. It's nice to go farther off the tee, but another 10 yards will never make up for a putt that drops."

Weckwerth joined Lakeville South's Oliver Theel as the lone Section 1 players named to the Class 3A All-State Team by the Minnesota High School Coaches Association. It's an honor given to only 20 players per class, across the entire state.

It's also an honor more than two years in the making for Weckwerth.

His sterling scoring average this year included three rounds where he shot under par, and three more where he shot even par. He shot more than 75 in only three of his 19 rounds, and he shot two rounds in the 60s, including a season-best 67 on May 19 at his home course, Eastwood Golf Club, in the Big 9 Conference final. That round included 13 pars, three birdies and an eagle (he made a 3 on the 459-yard, par-5 11th hole).

He went the final two seasons of his high school career without shooting in the 80s — the last time he did that in a competitive varsity round was his first-ever round at a state meet, when he shot 82 at Bunker Hills on June 11, 2024.

With his high school career now behind him, Weckwerth will head to Concordia University, St. Paul, in the fall to play Division II golf. The Golden Bears were the runners-up in the NSIC conference meet this spring after winning the conference title a year ago.

"The coaching and family (atmosphere) they have there, it will be great to play for them," Weckwerth said. "Just having access to them and the facilities will be cool."
