Jun. 10—BECKER — Brody Srsen looked poised to make a move on the leaderboard after Day 1 of the Class 1A boys golf state tournament.

After shooting 5-over-par 77, the Fillmore Central junior was surrounded by 20 golfers who were tied or within one shot of him.

Srsen made sure he climbed up the leaderboard during Wednesday's final round at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

He fired a 2-over-par 74 to finish the 36-hole meet at 7-over-par 151 and in the top 10.

His finish was also a massive climb up the leaderboard from the past two years, when he finished 78th and 71st at state. Now a junior, Srsen's experience on the Pebble Beach course, and with the mental side of playing in a state meet, is paying off.

Srsen made nine pars and four birdies — all of the birdies coming on par-4s, and all in a five-hole stretch between holes No. 7 and 11.

Section 1-1A medalist Jack Brogle finished in a tie for 11th place, shooting 74-78—152.

Heritage Christian Academy swept the championships; its team shooting 302-301 — 603 to win by seven shots over Central Minnesota Christian (300-310—610). Rushford-Peterson placed sixth as a team (331-322—653). The Trojans were led by brothers Will and Sam Lafleur, who tied for 39th place, at 161.

COON RAPIDS — Brennan Weckwerth's final round of high school golf wasn't exactly what he hoped it would be, but the Rochester Century senior walked off the course with an impressive streak intact, and as a state-meet qualifier.

Weckwerth shot a 5-over-par 77 at Bunker Hills on Wednesday, to finish the Class 3A state meet at 6-over 150 and in a tie for 32nd place in the 88-golfer field.

He entered the day tied for 20th at 1-over-par 73.

Weckwerth's 77 on Wednesday, though, marked his 38th consecutive high school round in the 70s or 60s. The Concordia University-St. Paul commit went his entire junior and senior seasons without shooting in the 80s.

Weckwerth started Wednesday's final round on the back nine and got off to a good start, making a birdie on the 540-yard, par-5 11th hole. He was 1-under for the day through his first four holes. He played the next five holes in 5-over, before shooting 37 on the final nine holes, to finish at 77.

The highlight of his final round was a stretch of three birdies in four holes on the front nine (his second nine for the day). He birdied holes No. 2 (a 368-yard par-4), No. 4 (a 486-yard par-5), and No. 5 (a 385-yard par-4).

Weckwerth finishes his senior year with a 73.05 scoring average per 18 holes, the best in southeastern Minnesota.

Elk River's William Roiland is the Class 3A state medalist, shooting 67-72—139 to win by one shot over Spring Lake Park's Chase Birdwell (69-71—140).

Lakeville South's Oliver Theel was the top finisher from Section 1. He tied for fifth place, shooting 71-72—143. Northfield's Elias Ekern placed 11th (74-70—144).

Shurke shot a 5-over-par 77 in the final round, after opening with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, to finish the 36-hole meet with a 149, and in a tie for 15th place.

He was playing in his second state meet; Schurke tied for 56th place as a sophomore in 2024.
