With free agency a month away, it’s time to check in on the Raiders’ tight end position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.
Backups: Michael Mayer, Carter Ryan
Free agents: Ian Thomas
Bowers numbers took a tumble from his record-breaking rookie campaign. But it was not from his performance. He suffered an injury in the season opener that cost him five games and hobbled in in many others. The offense was also in shambles which meant no one was going to be putting up the numbers they should. What we got to see when Bowers was down was Mayer step up. He put up a career highs in catches (9) and yards (89) in the team’s Week 17 game vs the Giants.
Bowers was the best tight end in football as a rookie and his 2025 stats did nothing to change that. Mayer showed why he was the team’s selection at 35 overall in the 2023 draft, giving the Raiders arguably the best one-two punch at tight end in the league. And Carter Ryan may be a bit of a find as an undrafted guy.
Not only is this the strongest position on this Raiders squad, it is the only position you could say is strong enough that no help is needed.
