The San Antonio Spurs were unable to protect their early advantage in Game 4 of the NBA Finals and now find themselves trailing 3-1 in the series. As disappointing as the defeat was, the aftermath of the game brought even more troubling developments.
Reports surfaced that several eggs were allegedly thrown toward Victor Wembanyama and members of the Spurs organization outside Madison Square Garden.
With the Knicks moving within one victory of securing their first NBA championship in 53 years, excitement across New York City reached extraordinary levels. However, the celebrations appeared to spiral beyond control in some areas.
Amid the chaos, a 17-year-old teenager became the victim of a violent incident. According to ABC, the teenager was beaten into a coma near Madison Square Garden following Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
“A 17-year-old boy was beaten into a coma near Madison Square Garden following Game 4 of the NBA Finals, New York City police said Friday while releasing a photo of a suspect sought in connection with the assault. The incident occurred Wednesday night around 11:45 p.m., according to the New York Police Department, amid rowdy celebrations following the New York Knicks' win,” the report read.
In response to the incident, police released an image of a suspect believed to be connected to the attack and continued efforts to identify everyone involved. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a verbal disagreement involving the Knicks. Investigators reviewed video footage that allegedly captured an individual provoking the crowd by shouting, “Spurs in 7,” during the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Spurs now find themselves on the brink of elimination. Wembanyama and his teammates are just one loss away from watching their championship aspirations disappear. As a result, Game 5 is expected to carry enormous intensity, both on the court and around the atmosphere surrounding the series.
