The post On Second Thought, Maybe Tralmaks Isn’t Coming Back to Red Wings appeared first on Detroit Hockey Now.
In an interview earlier this week, Detroit Red Wings farmhand Eduards Tralmaks was talking about the possibility of playing again next season in North America. Many folks, including those of us here at Detroit Hockey Now, went with the assumption that it meant there was a chance he could be back with the Red Wings organization.
Well, upon further review, it appears the chances of that happening may be about as good as Jim Carrey’s chances of getting with Lauren Holly in Dumb and Dumber.
In an interview published on the Czech website iSport, Tralmaks discussed his time with the Red Wings organization, and there wasn’t much fondness in his memories.
“The older you get, the less interest there is in you,” said Tralmaks, 29. “Management looks at the players the club drafted.
“I didn’t understand at all what they wanted from me.”
Tralmaks scored 26 goals for Detroit’s top farm club, the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. He kept waiting for a call from the big club.
That call finally came while the Red Wings were injury-riddled during a late-season Florida road trip. Tralmaks was summoned as an emergency replacement for injured winger Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. Under NHL rules, that meant Tralmaks could only play if Brandsegg-Nygard didn’t.
“He couldn’t decide whether to play or not,” Tralmaks said. “I promised him everything possible to let me play. But he’s young, he wanted to show that he could play, so it didn’t work out.
“I went out on the ice to warm up. I hope it wasn’t the closest I’ll ever get to my NHL debut. And Brandsegg-Nygard couldn’t skate after half the game.”
For now, Tralmaks plans to relax. He’ll go home, take a breath, and take a break. Help out with his family’s blueberry business.
“I need to sleep and rest now,” Tralmaks said. “I want to be home, have some home-cooked food, and enjoy Latvia.
“It’s been a very long season for me. A very demanding season. I need to take a proper break for two or three weeks, spend time with my family, with my friends, enjoy the beautiful Latvian nature, and maybe even the nice weather.”
When he feels recharged, Tralmaks will begin to determine what is ahead in his hockey future. And wherever it takes him, he’ll hold his head high when he thinks about what he accomplished as part of the Red Wings organization.
“I can be proud of myself for this season because I did everything to fulfill my dream,” Tralmaks said.
Even if the dream didn’t come true.
