When Detroit Red Wings farmhand Eduards Tralmaks arrived in Switzerland to play for Latvia at the IIHF World Championship, he was carting three pieces of luggage with him.

One, oddly enough, was from the Providence Bruins. That was his home during his first AHL stint. Another bag was carrying the logo of his current club, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

It was the third bag that raised eyebrows, though. This piece of luggage carried the logo of the Czech Extraliga club Kladno. That’s the team Tralmaks has been linked to for next season.

It’s known that the high-scoring Latvian forward has a standing offer from Kladno. What’s not known yet is whether he will accept it.

“He left Kladno last year as the most productive player in the extra league and in the AHL he scored a very solid 42 points (26+16) in 64 games,” the Czech website Denik Sport reported. “However, he was called up to the main team of Detroit only once, and that did not lead to the dream start.

The Red Wings elected not to suit up Tralmaks following his brief late-season recall from the AHL Griffins.

“That is why he will return to the [Kladno] Knights, although neither the club nor the player has officially confirmed his return,” Denik Sport reported. “However, the ambitious Central Bohemians should have already paid a hefty sum to Karlovy Vary, where the Latvian signed before going overseas.”

Tralmaks Only Has Eyes For The Worlds

If Tralmaks has made up his mind where he’ll be playing next season, he’s not saying. His only focus at the moment is playing for Latvia against his GR teammate Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Norway in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

The moment he accepted that his AHL season was over after the Griffins were eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs by the Chicago Wolves, Tralmaks knew what his next mission would be.

“You don’t think about the offer to represent [your country],” Tralmaks told Denik Sport. “Especially when the championship is already underway, and the team needs my help.

“I always want to come. As soon as I could, I packed up and jumped on a plane.”

Offering A Scouting Report on MBN

Preparing to face his close friend, Tralmaks offered a scouting report on what makes Brandsegg-Nygard such a dangerous opponent.

“He is a hockey player you have to play very closely against,” Tralmaks told Latvian site Sportacenters. “Very, very technical striker. Fast player. Performs a lot of power moves. Strong.”

“Very good shot – shouldn’t let him shoot. He shot a lot in the AHL playoffs. We need to pay serious attention.”
