Sellier was helped off the track on a stretcher after her injury, which ended her bid for a Gold medal in the 1500-meter women’s short track speedskating event.

Sellier finished 24th in the women’s 1500-meter event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. She and Kristen Santos-Griswold of the U.S. did not finish their six-person heat, which Hanne Desmet of Belgium won in a time of 2:24.365.

The finals of the women’s 1500 meter event is scheduled for later Friday in Milan.

According to CBC reporter Devin Heroux, the temperatures at the rink might have played a factor in the condition of the ice that precipitated the fall. At 64 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius), Friday has been the hottest day in Milan since the Olympics began.

“Ice conditions have been a topic of conversation throughout the Olympics here. It’s the same venue for short track and figure skating,” Heroux wrote on social media. “And after two weeks of blades tearing up the ice, it appears it’s just not holding up on the final evening of competition.”
