The Oklahoma Sooners' SEC tournament run came to an end on Friday night in an 82-79 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks. It was a tight back-and-forth ball game that went down to the wire, and the Sooners' NCAA tournament bid may have fallen short as Nijel Pack's three-pointer with seconds left missed the mark.
Oklahoma had few answers for guard Darius Acuff Jr., who had 21 points in the first half and finished the game with an incredible 37 points to put away the Sooners. After his layup attempt was blocked by Mohamed Wague in the final minute, Acuff got the ball back and hit a jumper to keep the Sooners at arm's lenth. But when he missed 1 of 2 free throws on Arkansas' final possession, it gave Oklahoma one more shot. Unfortunately, Pack wasn't able to come through with one more heroic moment at the buzzer.
Aside from Acuff, just one other Razorback finished in double figures.
The Razorbacks finished the game with an edge in offensive rebounds, outshot the Sooners from three 38% to 25%, were plus three in second chance points, and plus-six in fast break points. And in a game that came down to the wire, that was more than enough to fend off the feisty Oklahoma Sooners.
Pack led the Sooners in scoring once again with 19 points, but was just 6 of 15 from the field. Xzayvier Brown, who's provided a strong second scoring option for the Sooners this season, was just 2 of 10 from the field and was 0 for 3 from three. Tae Davis and Derrion Reid each had 17 points to continue their strong postseason, and Mohamed Wague had 13.
Now, the Sooners await the decision from the selection committee. They're right on the bubble ahead of Selection Sunday and will need some help from across the country. But they made a statement over the final month of the season to put themselves in position to be in consideration after the nine-game losing streak seemingly left the Sooners gasping for tournament life.
