Darnell Nurse apparently wants to be traded away from the Edmonton Oilers.

If that does indeed happen, the Philadelphia Flyers could be one of the teams who makes a serious bid at trying to trade for the veteran defenseman.

Jackie Spiegel of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Thursday that there is "mutual interest" between the Flyers and Nurse.

She adds that Nurse is the nephew of Donovan McNabb, the legendary Philadelphia Eagles quarterback.

Per @FriedgeHNIC & @SportsnetSpec, Darnell Nurse has asked for a trade. I am hearing there is mutual interest between Nurse — nephew of Eagles legend Donovan McNabb — & #Flyers. But what would he cost? How much retention is EDM willing to take? And is there another move?

The trickiest part of acquiring Nurse for any team is his salary.

Nurse is under contract through 2029-30, and he has a $9.25 million annual cap hit.

Any team that trades for Nurse will want the Oilers to retain some of his salary. The former team can keep up to half a salary on their own books.

If Edmonton is willing to do that, it'll be a lot easier to trade Nurse.

Nurse is still a solid defenseman, but he's not worth that high salary number. If a new team can get Nurse for essentially a fraction of that, it's worth trying.

The Flyers have a lot of young talent, but maybe they'd like the chance to add a veteran among them. Nurse would fit that bill.
