Ohio State basketball has already faced its share of departures this offseason, but it appears to be aggressively pursuing reinforcements for the upcoming season.

Joe Tipton of On3 reported that the Buckeyes are one of the teams (subscription required) heavily pursuing former Notre Dame star Jalen Haralson when the transfer period opens on April 7th. The 6-foot-7 combo guard from Fishers, Indiana, plans to enter the transfer portal after a breakout freshman campaign with the Fighting Irish.

Haralson averaged 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting an efficient 51.5% from the field in 27 games, 23 of them as a starter. Notably, he scored 13 points in Notre Dame's November loss at Ohio State. Ohio State offered Haralson out of high school, making the program hopeful that it can have a jump-start to pursue the versatile wing, who has three years of eligibility remaining.

The interest comes at a critical time for Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler. The Buckeyes have already seen significant roster churn; forward Devin Royal, Colin White, Gabe Cupps, and Taison Chatman all appear to be set to enter the transfer portal. With all those departures, it is imperative for the Buckeyes to be able to bring in significant talent that can score and create some depth on this team.

Landing Haralson would inject immediate offensive firepower into a Buckeyes squad aiming to build on its 2026 NCAA Tournament appearance. His size, scoring efficiency, and playmaking would be welcomed in Columbus. As the portal heats up, Ohio State fans will watch closely if the Buckeyes can fight off competitors and land the former prospect from Indiana.

Ohio State finished the year with a 21-13 record overall and a 12-8 record within the Big Ten conference. Its season concluded in the first round of the NCAA tournament in a 66-64 loss to TCU.
