Ohio State athletics administrator Kevin Griffin is leaving the school to become the athletic director at Oregon State.

He’ll begin his tenure at Oregon State on July 6, replacing Scott Barnes, who is retiring after nearly a decade at the helm of the athletic department.

In a statement announcing the hire on June 4, Oregon State president Jayathi Murthy praised Griffin for his "track record in business strategy, revenue generation and marketing"

Griffin had been at Ohio State since 2022 as an associate vice president for brand engagement, services and partnerships and associate director of athletics business strategy. He recently led a department committee that began exploring renovations to Ohio Stadium with a survey of fans released in April.

Before joining the Ohio State athletic department, Griffin was the senior vice president for marketing and brand strategy for D.C. United of Major League Soccer. He also worked in management in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks.

Griffin was a wide receiver for the Buckeyes from 1995-98 and is the nephew of Archie Griffin, the two-time Heisman Trophy-winning tailback.
