It is only the second 1st round signing that is 6 years in duration. This is a significant indication that the Cardinals know just how good he really is. Next year we will extend Dockett and Dansby and our core defense will be set for years.

I don't buy that for a second, everyone knows that there's no way a good player ever has to play out his rookie contract.

:D

I don't get the 6th year I thought because of the uncapped year that bonuses were harder to spread out(one less year) this year? So it would seem there's no advantage to the Cards doing it 6 or 7 years in terms of caproom from prorating the bonus?

Or did I misunderstand that part?

You can only prorate the signing bonus over 5 years correct, but you still have the player locked up for 6 years which is an advantage over 5 years correct. Which is good for the team. In fact it is really a feat that we were able to get him locked up for 6 years, when every agent and their brother have been very strict with only excepting 5 years or less.

In fact I would be willing to bet that, that 6th year is what was holding up the deal this whole time. Rolles agent wanted only 5 years at the most and we wanted 6 or more. I think Rolles camp finally caved to our demands and we may have made an escalotor easier to get in the process to get them to sign off on the 6th year.

I don't know about that. Green drafted this guy to be his #1 CB. I'd wouldn't be shocked to see him running with the #1 Defense by the end of the day.

Yeah. I remember a Dennis Green quote along the lines of "you expect players you draft in the first two rounds to start for you immediately".

I expect Rolle to be on the field with Macklin against the Giants in week 1.

And is he in for a shock, he's not in college anymore. He's got 8 days to make up for, that being said, who better to go up against than Q and Fitz...his 1st few weeks are gonna be tough adjusting to things, hopefully he's a quick learn

The Chunky Soup contract was holding up the deal.

That sets up the 'Momma Rolle vs Momma McNabb" grudge match

Call me Old School, but despite Dennis' penciling in Rolle as a starter prior to Camp, I think Tate has earned the right to start and Antrel will have to prove he can do better before he's handed the starting job on a platter. (When you don't attend the first 2 weeks of practices, all talk of returning starters getting their jobs back doesn't apply here).

I'm confident Antrel will rise to the occasion and nail down a starting role, but it's not a lock (Tate could make this interesting) and it may take a week or three.

1st round money notwithstanding, that's what competition in camp is all about.

Great news.

Now we can watch him Saturday night, at Sun Devil Stadium, covering the cowpukes #1 receiver...

WHO?

(I know it's just preseason, but I hope we smoke 'em:)
