One side feels history will repeat itself and the other feels everything will be green grass and roses in a new place.

Time will tell. :grabs:

Don’t troll Chopper.
Buddy, not trolling. He was small, had an above average arm, good accuracy, and started for one season in college. If people think that profile is "generational" they are not using the word correctly. That doesn't mean he wasn't worth going #1 overall, but there was nothing generational there.

He was definitely a generational athlete but he never found it as a passer. Lamar did.
Calvin Johnson. Tyreek Hill. Tristan Wirfs. Julio Jones. Josh Allen. Lamar Jackson. Randy Moss. Andre Johnson. Aaron Donald. Julius Peppers. Quenton Nelson. Reggie Bush. Michael Vick. JJ Watt.

Those guys are all better athletes than Kyler Murray and are all from my "generation".

Vick often said that Kyler was both faster and had a better arm than he did back in the day.

It’s easy to forget how electric Kyler was until the Packers game because of recency bias and disappointment.

Kyler was, to me, more of an evolutionary prospect — the next evolution of Russ/Vick.

At the same time, the meta of the league shifted away from the QB run game and more traditional drop back.

Very frustrating.

I still don’t think you understand what he’s saying.

You can be a generational athlete while still being a not-good player of the sport you’re playing.

IMO Anthony Richardson was a better athlete coming out of college than Kyler but certainly was not the better QB.

EDIT: added IMO

I think Vick was being kind like a lot of mentor/older players are to younger, aspirational players. I think Kyler was the better thrower but I don't think he had a stronger arm.

Yea, and that’s a thing people always said about Richardson.
My point is that Kyler can't be a generational athlete when he isn't even the athlete that Anthony Richardson was. Which IMO is not a dig at Kyler as he was certainly the better draft prospect.

I can agree that Kyler was hoped to be the perfect blend of Vick and Brees.

If most of this even remotely comes true it will be a monster indictment against the PV Hillbillies.

Name the athletes drafted top 10 in 2 professional sports.

None of those dudes above were.

How many of them even played two sports in college?

Tyreek Hill was a track star, but you don't get drafted to a professional track league or anything.

Michael Vick is a convicted dog killer, and his other sport is illegal.

You would think these talking heads would've learned after the last couple years of people talking up how great Kyler was going to be in the preseason. Then real games start and he's mostly throwing checkdowns and showing off his speed.

It's been the same story for some time now. He didn't get benched for brisket for no reason. He won't play in pocket consistently.

i would take brissett over kyler mccarthy and wentz - same goes for beck

vikings let darnold go - drafted mccrappy and will now rely on kyler murray - they'll likely draft top 10 next year because of it

vikings have no qb of the present or the future - if we're trash they're hella trash - i just wish we played them/kyler this year

Eh I think his scrambling ability could have been. When Kyler could balance seam busting throws with timely big gain scrambles, teams were scared AF about playing him.

Kyler Murray stops Kyler Murray more than anyone else. I don't think he prepares like a generational player and that alone can make a player not generational.

This 100%.

“I think I was blessed with the cognitive skills to just go out there and just see it before it happens… I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don’t sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much” - Kyler Murray
