There had been some hope that the start of the Mets' series with the Padres would include the return of Jorge Polanco.

That won't be the case. The Mets infielder, who has been out since April 15 while dealing with the lingering effects of Achilles bursitis in his left leg, instead remained on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets, who are coming off their lone win of the three-game series with the Mariners, will continue their six-game road trip at 10:10 p.m. on Friday night at Petco Park in San Diego.

In a 7-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon, the Mets received their second four-hit performance of the season from Bo Bichette, who drove in three runs and scored another. A.J. Ewing also added three hits in the win.

The Mets will look to carry that momentum while taking advantage of a Padres team that has scuffled over the last week. The home side has lost five straight games, including two to the Nationals and a three-game sweep to the Phillies to open the month of June. In the process, they slipped to third in the NL West behind the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
