NEW YORK — The Mets had a chance to catch their breath following a rough weekend in Philadelphia.
After they lost the final to games to the Phillies by a combined score of 21-5, thunderstorms in the New York area forced Monday's series opener between the Mets and Cubs to be postponed.
Now, the Mets will open their series against the Cubs at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Monday's postponement will be made up as part of a split admission doubleheader on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
It is a big four-game series for the Mets, which carry a 34-43 record into the week. They are currently chasing the Cubs (40-37) for the final wild card spot and six games back entering the day.
Kodai Senga will remain slotted to pitch on Tuesday after having Monday's start postponed.
Senga has made one start off the injured list, allowing four earned runs over four innings in his last outing against the Reds. He enters the night with an 0-5 record and 9.00 ERA.
The Cubs, meanwhile, have pushed ***** Imanaga back after the postponement. They will turn to Edward Cabrera (4-4, 5.21) to make Tuesday's start.
