It was the year of the underclassman on the Class C All-State softball and baseball teams chosen by a panel of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Of the 32 first-team selections, 24 of them were underclassmen, including Most Valuable Players Brooklyn Hebert of Northside Christian and Rylan Davis of Claiborne Christian.

Hebert, an eighth grader for state champion Northside Christian, batted .486 with six homers and 38 RBIs in guiding her team to the Class C state championship. Davis, a sophomore with Claiborne Christian, sported a 3.40 earned run average, while also batting .353 in leading his team to a state title.

Hebert was joined on the squad by a pair of teammates, Izabella Bertrand and Rylee Hernandez. Davis also had a pair of Claiborne teammates on the team with him in Parker Bearden and Cade Wallace.

Simpson coach Jade Losavio and Claiborne Christian’s Joshua Uchtmann were named Coaches of the Year.

Losavio led No. 13 seed Simpson to the state semifinals, eliminating both fourth-seeded Summerfield and fifth-ranked Ebarb along the way. Uchtmann guided Claiborne Christian to the state title game, knocking off top-ranked Maurepas for the state crown.
