Norfolk State head coach Michael Vick and the Spartans took center stage Tuesday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's annual Media Day, where the second-year coach outlined a program focused on moving past last season's struggles and building toward a turnaround in 2026.
This year's MEAC Media Day was hosted by The Pivot Podcast and former NFL defensive back Ryan Clark at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
Norfolk State enters its second season under Vick after finishing 1-11 in 2025. Rather than dwelling on that record, Vick said the Spartans are using it as motivation as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The program has undergone significant changes since the end of last season, adding approximately 40 new players while also making several adjustments to the coaching staff. The roster overhaul has created what Vick described as a team with a new mindset heading into the 2026 campaign.
Following what the coaching staff considered a productive spring, the Spartans believe they are positioned to take a significant step forward this fall.
Despite those changes, Norfolk State was picked to finish fifth in the MEAC preseason poll, a projection influenced in part by last season's record. Vick said, however, the Spartans are not concerned with preseason expectations and remain focused on preparing for the season opener and proving themselves on the field.
