I'm at a loss.. of course this stuff is funny, but how does the league just make up rules on the fly?

The league can block any trade they want for any reason they want.

Sure, this move is hilarious if you dislike Dallas, but the hypocrisy here from the NBA is a friggin' joke.

They can break their own rule and tell Stackhouse he's not going back, but they can't let Diaw and Amare play.

The NBA is the poster-child for hypocrisy.

I may agree it's bs to trade, cut, and resign.. but, that's the rule they put forth. Now they are able to make up new rules because they failed to make it right the first or second time? Sounds bogus to me and I were Dallas I would certainly challenge this.

The Kidd-to-Dallas deal has not happened yet and so any regulation adjustments or reinterpretations made now will apply to it.

And it's our old friend, Stu Jackson, making these determinations of what is and is not "in the spirit" of the rules. :(

I didn't like the Stackhouse part of the deal when it was announced. If allowed, we could do trades with teams with 5 players each, and just get the four guys back in 30 days. You could circumvent the cap, and trade rules while keeping almost the same teams together anyway. Make them work it out correctly to start with. Could this have been the NBA's way of sticking it back to Cuban after all the problems he's caused them over the years? :)
