No. 3 Fort Hill boys down East Hardy on road; Mtn. Ridge, Union win

BAKER, W.Va. — No. 3 Fort Hill jumped on East Hardy early and held on late for a 53-48 road victory on Wednesday night.

The Sentinels (7-3) led 15-6 after the first quarter, 29-22 at the half and 39-35 after three periods.

Jameson Powell-Morris scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Neek Taylor added five in the fourth, to help Fort Hill hang on.

Liam Hamilton added 10 points for the Sentinels, and Jacob Bone scored nine.

East Hardy center Gideon Good led all scorers with 27 points, the final two a slam dunk at the buzzer. Joseph Price chipped in nine points.

Fort Hill (1-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) is at Northern (5-6, 0-4 WestMAC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

East Hardy hosts Moorefield (4-5) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 5 Mtn. Ridge 72, Northern 52

FROSTBURG — Cam Breighner exploded for a game-high 27 points to power Mountain Ridge past Northern Wednesday in WestMAC action.

Mountain Ridge (5-4, 1-2 WestMAC) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. Northern (5-6, 0-4 WestMAC) has lost three in a row.

The Miners jumped on Northern early, blitzing the Huskies for 26 first-quarter points for a 16-point lead. Mountain Ridge led 42-23 at the half and 64-32 after three.

Breighner garnered his total on 12 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and a 2 for 2 effort at the line. He was accompanied in double figures by one teammate, AJ Lauder, who added 10.

Northern had three double-digit offensive outputs from Ansel Miller (19 points), Caleb Hinebaugh (14) and Jayden McNally (12).

The Miners won the JV game 62-11. Mountain Ridge's Sawyer Elliott scored a game-high 12 points, and Bex Litton added 11.

Mountain Ridge is at Tucker County on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Northern hosts Fort Hill on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Union 70, Hancock 58

HANCOCK — Braylon Ward poured in a game-high 43 points to key Union's victory at Hancock on Wednesday.

Ward scored 20 or more points in each his. His 12 points in the first quarter helped Union (3-6) lead 16-15. The Tigers, trailing 34-32 at the half, surged ahead 55-42 after three periods with the help of Ward's 15 points.

Ward, who is averaging 25.8 points per game, added 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals to his scoring output. Corbin Streets garnered a double-double with 16 points, 10 boards and four blocks, and Eric Linkswiler tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

Hancock's Hunter Kerns contributed a team-high 25 points.

Union hosts Clay-Battelle, ranked No. 3 in Class A, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
