KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WJHL) – When the No. 11 Milligan University Buffaloes finally saw their name appear on the 2026 NAIA Selection Show, the room erupted.
The Buffs officially secured an at-large bid, earning a trip to the palm trees and humidity of Lakeland, Florida, for an Opening Round clash scheduled for Monday, May 11.
Milligan enters the fray as the No. 2 seed in a competitive four-team bracket.
They find themselves in the territory of the top-seeded Southeastern University Fire, a No. 14-ranked powerhouse from the Sun Conference acting as the host.
For their first test on the diamond, the Buffaloes will square off against a long-distance traveler: the No. 3-seeded University of British Columbia. The No. 24-ranked Thunderbirds are coming all the way from north of the border to represent the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Rounding out the group is the fourth seed, the Faulkner University Eagles, who will look to pull off an upset against Southeastern in their opening game.
This double-elimination bracket is one of only ten in the country, and the pressure will be relentless until a champion is crowned on Wednesday, May 13. For the team that survives the Lakeland heat, the reward is a golden ticket to Lewiston, Idaho.
There, from May 22-30, the ten bracket winners from across the nation will meet on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College to fight for the ultimate crown at the Avista NAIA World Series.
