Two individuals with Shawnee State ties — one recent SSU graduate and another former SSU graduate-turned-coach — continue to make headway in the sports of softball and baseball, respectively as Shawnee State senior outfielder Jenna Christopher was named as a Second Team NAIA All-Region honoree while 2022 Shawnee State alumni Drew Lowe helped lead Southeastern (Fla.) to a victory in its first contest at the NAIA World Series over Johnson (Tenn.).

Christopher earns NAIA All-Region honors

Behind a strong season that saw Shawnee State outfielder Jenna Christopher obtain a batting average over .400 and break the SSU all-time single season and career stolen base record, the senior from Huntington, W. Va. was named as a Second-Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region honoree, as announced by NFCA officials.

Christopher finished the 2026 season batting .405 for Shawnee State, and, with 29 stolen bases, broke her own single-season stolen base record of 26 swipes from a season ago.

A graduate from Spring Valley (W. Va.) High School in Huntington, Christopher, who was Shawnee State's leadoff hitter throughout much of her three seasons at SSU after transferring from West Virginia Wesleyan, hit .365 with 27 extra base hits, 56 RBI and finished her career with an .883 .OPS.

With 70 stolen bases, Christopher is easily the program's all-time leader in that category.

Lowe, Southeastern one of seven teams left in NAIA World Series

East graduate Drew Lowe continues to enjoy success as the NAIA World Series rolls on, as Southeastern (Fla.) is just one of seven teams remaining in the NAIA World Series as of press time on Tuesday. The NAIA World Series is being played in Lewiston, Idaho and Lowe is Southeastern's pitching coach.

Southeastern, a university that is based out of Lakeland, Fla., is just one of three teams remaining in the winner's bracket. The Fire overcame a 3-0 deficit after the opening pair of innings by scoring eight runs in the third and fourth innings of play to take an 8-3 advantage over Johnson (Tenn.), then, after falling behind by a 10-8 count, nabbed six runs in the sixth to take a 14-10 lead before holding on for a 14-13 victory.

The Fire played River States Conference Champion Indiana-Southeast on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT, with the winner getting William Carey (Miss.) on Wednesday, May 27 at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.

Southeastern sits 44-16 in 2026 as of Tuesday.
