No. 1 UCLA baseball completed the Big Ten Conference series sweep against Iowa with a 14-6 in the series finale at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City on Sunday.
The Bruins started the series off with a defensive battle in game one and then shutout the Hawkeyes in the second game. In the finale, UCLA continued their offensive onslaught from their last game with 12 hits and seven walks leading to 13 RBIs and 14 runs.
UCLA's batters were unable to get a hit in the first, which gave the Hawkeyes a prime opportunity to take the lead after a wild pitch would lead to Iowa's first score of the game.
The top of the second ended with the Bruins going out on a double play, but UCLA's batters made up for it with two runs off of three hits in the third to gain the lead. The Bruins aggressiveness continued in the fourth with three hits leading to six runs and three runs coming from second base.
After a scoreless fifth, UCLA's batters struck gold with a three-run homer by Roman Martin and another home run by Will Gasparino in the sixth to push the Bruins to a 12-1 lead.
The Hawkeyes rallied in the bottom of the seventh and eighth with a three-run homer in the seventh and a two-run homer in the eighth to inch their way closer to UCLA's 12-6 lead.
UCLA finished the game with another homer from Martin, this time a two-run homer to deep left field to push their lead back up to eight-runs and leave no doubt that they would win the game.
The Bruins head back to California to take on UC Irvine at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine on Tuesday with an anticipated start time of 6 p.m. PT.
