What a Tuesday in the NBA, with two big trades that came down with Thursday's deadline approaching. There's a third one to add to the mix.
Nikola Vucevic is off to the Boston Celtics, and Afernee Simons will be a Chicago Bull. The former? They're a serious contender that just got stronger. The latter? Well, it seems like they're doing... something. And there's more to come from the Bulls, it seems.
This one's fairly clear cut and simple. As usual, let's hand out some trade grades for each team, along with the details of the deal that broke on Tuesday afternoon.
Bulls get: G Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick
Celtics get: C Nikola Vucevic
Man. The East should be very, very afraid. The Celtics are already a deep team that has done some damage even with Jayson Tatum out of the lineup. With Jaylen Brown playing like an MVP candidate, they could make some noise in the playoffs.
With this move? They got even better. Vucevic brings in serious offense with the ability to stretch the floor. With Neemias Queta providing great defense in the paint, this gives the Celtics flexibility and depth. Simons was expendable and was an asset as an expiring contract. GRADE: A-
Now, look. I just said that Simons was an expiring contract. Maybe that's the idea here, to get a second-rounder. But, uh, that's A LOT of guards in Chicago -- Josh Giddey, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Tre Jones, Mike Conley Jr., Jaden Ivey and Simons.
CLEARLY another trade or two is coming -- White? Dosunmu? -- but this grade will reflect the current move. GRADE: C+
