Germany is in the midst of a poor effort vs. Ivory Coast and things got worse when Borussia Dortmund star and German national team center-back Nico Schlotterbeck was forced to leave the game due to an injury he picked up in the first half.

Schlotterbeck worked gingerly through the remainder of the first half after taking a knock, but was forced to leave. Real Madrid star Antonio Rüdiger replaced Schlotterbeck and is attempting to help steady the defensive group, which has been tested greatly by the Ivory Coast attack (which has not exactly been sharp, but definitely poses a threat).

The entire backline was under duress for a good chunk of the first half as the offense scuffled to create and battled even more to finish. Hopefully, this ailment for Schlotterbeck will be short-lived. The defender is a very important part of the squad and has been working hard to develop a partnership with Bayern Munich defender Jonathan Tah at center-back for Germany.
