CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers are entering a new era of leadership with Mike Gansey leading the way as the team's new President of Basketball Operations. He takes over the job from Daryl Morey who held the position for six seasons in Philadelphia.

Gansey is looking to help the Sixers get over the hump in an Eastern Conference that now includes the defending champion New York Knicks. Philadelphia has gotten close in the past, but just has not had enough go its way in order to get past Round 2 for the first time since 2001. This is a team with a talented core, but there could be improvements made around the margins and that's what Gansey intends to attack.

Coach Nick Nurse will return for his fourth season at the helm and has been working with Gansey leading up to the draft following the departure of Morey.

"It's been great working with Mike, and you guys—most of you guys know I coached him in a summer league scenario 2010-2011," Nurse said on Tuesday night. "So, I’ve known him for a little while at least. He’s, obviously, very experienced. He’s been doing high-level stuff with the Cavs for a long time, and he gets his chance to run a team now, and he's got great composure, very smart, and certainly handled the weeks leading up to this and tonight very well."

Gansey did mention that he played for Nurse for the G League select team in 2011 at the NBA summer league. Therefore, the two know each other well enough to forge a relationship quickly and the two men will now look to lead the Sixers. It doesn't change the fact that Nurse and Morey had a very good relationship during their three years together, but Gansey is the guy now and the two men must push Philadelphia forward.

"Obviously, I really enjoyed working with Daryl," Nurse explained. "I really did day-to-day, and all that kind of stuff is very enjoyable, but you know it's a decision that's been made, and we all got to move on from it, and I wish him the best. Always have a fondness for Daryl, but Mike's here, and he's in charge now, and my job is to get this team better every day, and that's what we're going to do."

When asked for a scouting report on Gansey the player, Nurse gave a detailed description of what he could bring to the floor.

"You probably could guess it," Nurse laughed. "Good shooter, played really hard, got the coach's award or hustle award. Those kinds of things. You guys know he was a great college player. Coached against him a lot in the minors, as well. Just totally dominated him when we played against him, but he was a good player."

The Sixers will now look to both Nurse and Gansey to get Philadelphia back on track and take down the Knicks in the Eastern Conference.
