Former Cincinnati Reds fan favorite Nick Castellanos was designated for assignment on June 3 by the San Diego Padres, the team announced.

Castellanos was batting .191 with four home runs in 122 plate appearances this season, his first with the Padres. He signed with San Diego before the season, after the Philadelphia Phillies released him.

In August 2025, Castellanos played for the Phillies when he walked onto the field at Great American Ball Park for rapper Snoop Dogg's postgame concert.

Castellanos was a National League All-Star for the Reds in 2021.

In 2022, Castellanos said the Reds' fan base was "suffocating because of ownership." He added that the Reds didn't call him after he decided to opt out and explore free agency.

In parts of two seasons with the Reds in 2020 and '21, Castellanos batted .284 with 48 home runs and an OPS of .893 in 827 plate appearances.
