The NFL world reacted quickly after the Ravens backed out of a blockbuster trade for Raiders star Maxx Crosby when the All-Pro pass rusher reportedly failed his physical. Baltimore now has the No. 14 overall pick, a 2027 first-round pick back, and plenty of salary cap space after a failed physical canceled their trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. Crosby was in Baltimore on Tuesday, and the move would have sent two first-round picks (in 2026 and 2027) to the Raiders. Crosby recently had knee surgery in Las Vegas prior to the season, and he needed to pass a physical before the deal could be officially confirmed.

From our breaking news coverage: The #Ravens made a decision on Maxx Crosby's medical that they are not ready to assume the risk of Crosby's knee -- nullifying the trade. pic.twitter.com/fPou4qSYym

There's also going to be plenty of blame game, finger pointing and hard feelings after a deal of this magnitude goes belly up that they'll have to sort through. https://t.co/3HMrRbNHKi

This is not the first time a failed physical has scuttled a deal on the Ravens end. It happened in 2018 when the Ravens agreed to terms with FA WR Ryan Grant, but didn't go through signing him because of an ankle issue. It happened again with Michael Brockers in 2020.

The #Cowboys were the runner-ups on the Maxx Crosby trade. Fair to wonder if they’d jump back in now… https://t.co/YW3o1KE8A8

Trade off.
Las Vegas had initially agreed to trade the five-time Pro-Bowl DE to Baltimore in exchange for 2026 and 2027 first-round picks.

Maxx Crosby did not pass his physical today, per sources.
The Ravens get their first round picks back.

Seems fair to assume the Raiders’ surgical team performed it, and I gotta think they signed off on it. The fact the Ravens didn’t have an issue with the trade, and are issuing the terse press release blaming the Ravens and saying nothing else, some doctors disagree.

This puts the Raiders in an incredibly difficult situation. They lose the picks, they have a bunch of deals to be finalized tomorrow done under the assumption Maxx Crosby was gone, and now they may have to turn around and trade him again with the medical question hovering.

If Ravens sign Trey Hendrickson now it’s going to invite a LOT of speculation that this was buyer’s remorse instead of a failed physical.

Wow.
Crosby had meniscus surgery in early January. https://t.co/OYWu2GX7tW
