The Chicago Bears' search for a new offensive coordinator has come to an end. And, ultimately, head coach Ben Johnson has elected to promote from within with Press Taylor filling the vacant offensive coordinator role.
Taylor was hired by Johnson last offseason as Chicago's passing game coordinator, so he has an understanding of the scheme and brings continuity with quarterback Caleb Williams heading into the 2026 season. Taylor replaces Declan Doyle, who departed to become the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator and have an opportunity to call plays.
Taylor served as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2022-24), where he worked with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Taylor also worked his way up the ladder with the Philadelphia Eagles getting his start as an offensive quality control coach (2013-15) and receiving promotions to assistant quarterbacks coach (2016-17) to quarterbacks coach (2018-20) and passing game coordinator (2020). Taylor also served as a senior offensive assistant with the Indianapolis Colts for a season (2021).
As you can imagine, there was quite a reaction to Taylor's promotion to offensive coordinator. While Bears fans are choosing to trust Ben Johnson and appreciate Taylor's understanding of the offense, there are Eagles fans who clearly haven't recovered from Taylor's struggles in Philadelphia.

NFL world reacts to Bears promoting Press Taylor to offensive coordinator
Don’t like it but I guess what I can say is a trust Ben Johnson, he’s nailed every single hire , two got poached for promotions after one season. So I’ll just continue to believe in him https://t.co/lrblfz1ip4

The Bears are not handing Press Taylor full control of the offense. Ben Johnson will still call the plays.
Taylor’s role is to support that vision, not replace it.
Good opportunity for Taylor at 38. An internal promotion that brings continuity for Caleb Williams. pic.twitter.com/LVpp5X8xHE

I’m good with this move.
1. Press’ role is setting the table for Ben, providing him with great leverage so that Ben can call the best plays on Sundays while still being HC.
I trust Ben’s judgment about who is best for him to do that.
2. Promoting from within keeps… https://t.co/bcLX2Fxb16

Seemed a logical choice. https://t.co/biNlctpJjy

I’m ok with this move. Knows the system, Caleb and the room. Ben calls the plays so it’s consistent with what we had with Declan. Now let’s get a young retired QB as the passing game coach and we are good https://t.co/vPwGDozMka

Let it be known Press Taylor was responsible for getting Doug Pederson fired twice. https://t.co/xgDsahw9tW

Always been a fan of Press but most importantly you get continuity with Ben and Caleb https://t.co/glExD2WYDt

I like this, no reason to bring in an outside voice when he is already in the building and working with Caleb…BJ is the main play caller anyhow https://t.co/QTvbVoHkBl

I believe in Ben Johnson way more than I doubt Press Taylor. Ben’s too good. The Bears will be fine. https://t.co/KUWQHdCyyR

Press Taylor’ı açık olan OC pozisyonumuza terfi ediyoruz.
Geçtiğimiz sene Ben Johnson’ın yeni koç ekibi ile birlikte gelmişti.
In-house birini beklemiyordum açıkçası, bu 1 sene içerisinde yaptıklarının karşılığıdır umarım.
Press Taylor’a yeni görevinde başarılar diliyorum. https://t.co/dms7QXkz2X

Make sense for the #Bears. Taylor is a former OC and this gives the coaching staff come continuity.
Also allows Antwaan Randle El to remain in place as WR coach/Assistant HC. https://t.co/nECxHoGVJF

BANG. Press Taylor will be a head coach in a couple years, I bet. https://t.co/SafBPj0E7N

Eu não me sinto tão mal com isso porque o ataque essencialmente é Ben Johnson FC, mas o Press Taylor foi tenebroso nos dois cargos de coordenador ofensivo que teve na carreira. https://t.co/MFFVjk3Kcm
