An NFL head coach might be a different type of personality than your average former high school quarterback turned Sunday fanatic. But Ben Johnson's recent opinion of the Madden video game series shows that sometimes NFL coaches really are just regular football fans at heart.

Sure, Johnson is currently the head coach of the Chicago Bears and has been bouncing around the NFL as an assistant coach for over a decade. Still, he got his start 'coaching' football just like many of us – by picking up the sticks and gaming with Madden on his favorite video game console. And his favorite way to play the game? Well, you'll probably find it very relatable.

When asked on Friday whether he played the popular video game series growing up, he smirked and said "occasionally," in a tone that might make you think he played a bit more often than one might deem occasional. But when asked who his team was, his answer wasn't precise and pointed towards a broad strategy that most fans with an Xbox or PlayStation console and a version of the game lying around have tried at one point or another.

"I always liked taking the bad teams and doing Franchise mode and try to build them up from there," he said.

It turns out it's not just the gamers and diehard fans who picked up the sticks one afternoon with little on the schedule and decided they were going to turn the worst franchise in the league into a multi-Super Bowl champion dynasty. Even some current league head coaches have been there before.

And who knows? If you practice really hard and work up a good enough game plan in your online Madden league, and just happen to have some connections in the pro football industry, maybe you could be the next Ben Johnson.
